Photographic evidence of the life and times in and around the Jackson Metro area.
You know what I tend to hear most, from people who aren’t from Jackson (or from the south in general)?
It starts of with: “I didn’t know you guys….”
and tends to end with a variety of statements: “…had an art scene.” “…had a music scene.” “…had a party scene.”
“…hung out with white/black/hispanic/gay people in social gatherings”.
Now, depending on who ways that, I’m either amused or irritated.
I can never figure out why people are so surprised that Jackson is like most other major metro areas in the south or north or mid-west, etc.
Of course then I remember that, for most people, all they see of the south is what they see from Hollywood or on the news when we do something stupid.
And then, one night in the shower, it occured to me. “Well, someone should start a photoblog site that shows that Jackson is more then what people assume it is.”
At which point I spent the rest of my shower trying to talk myself out of being that person.
But, in the end, I realized that I didn’t really have a good reason not to do it. It’s not like I’m not already always shooting all around Jackson anyway. In fact, it’s gotten to the point were people assume that if there’s a party or event or social gathering going on of course I’ll be there.
Well, why not use that to show people how Jackson, MS really is?
Why not indeed.
Welcome to Scenes Around Jackson.
