it means it’s time to check out the photos from the annual Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase!

so sit back and enjoy photos of a rocking show!

and, as always, let’s give props to Stephen Barnett of Davaine Lighting for lighting so awesome, we need to come up with a better word than “awesome” to describe it! 🙂

so, without further ado:

[From The Archives] Josh Hailey’s I Love Jackson Retrospective (12.2.10)

Posted in 2012, Color, Digital, From The Archives, Photo Post, rock and roll by William Patrick Butler on February 7, 2012

have you ever shot so many photos that you’ve overlooked a crap ton of them?

no?  well, i have LoL

in an effort to correct that, it’s time to, once again, take a look through the archives!

so, back in the last month of 2010, Josh Hailey, a well known Jackson Creative, was getting ready to pack up his ole kit bag and move to the always sunny west coast

and what do you do when you’re getting ready to move?  that’s right, you throw a going away party!  which is just what josh did.

except, this going away party included the entire city of jackson, live music, food, drinks, and kick ass art!

so let’s warm up the flux-capacitor and hop in the TARDIS and re-live a really great night!

and remember, this isn’t Sparta…

THIS!

IS!

JACKSON!

Zac Harmon @ Farish Street Heritage Festival (8.4.10)

Posted in 2011, Color, Digital, Photo Post, rock and roll by William Patrick Butler on December 16, 2011

i mentioned, way back in september of last year, that my friend rion had assisted me on a shoot for PORTICO Jackson but i was gonna wait to post the photos from that shoot until after that issue came out in november.  of last year.

so, as you can see, it took me awhile to get back to that but, figured i’d finally go ahead and post those photos LoL.

it was my first shoot for PORTICO and i was assigned to shoot Zac Harmon.  he was back in mississippi and would be performing at the Farish Street Heritage Festival.

PORTICO wanted some photos of him and then some photos of him when he was actually performing on stage.

so, after borrowing some lighting gear from my friend Tom Beck and asking rion if he would be down to assist me, i made my way downtown to farish street to get started.

JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THAT MISSISSIPPI BLUES

Furrows @ Sneaky B Studios (4.4.11)

Posted in 2011, Behind The Scenes, black and white, Digital, Photo Post, rock and roll by William Patrick Butler on June 6, 2011

so, as regular readers of SAJ know, i’ve pretty much gone from a weekly schedule to “post whenever i can find the time” because i’ve gotten busy with paid work.  and one of those assignments was shooting photos for the summer 2011 issue of BOOM Jackson.

one of the assignments was to get a photo of the band Furrows.

whenever i shoot a band, i always try to avoid the clichéd band photos.  y’know, the “put band in front of a brick wall” or shoot band standing on or around railroad tracks” type of photos.  so, i decided i wanted to shoot them in a recording studio.  i got in touch with Byron who, along with being the owner of Sneaky Beans is also the owner of Sneaky B Studios and asked if it was cool if i shot them in there since i’ve shot other groups in there before.

he said sure and, come to find out, the band was gonna be practicing there anyway and, after getting in touch with them, they said it was cool if i hung around, after the “official” shoot and just shot them while practicing.

sounded good to me 🙂

(make sure to check out the summer issue of BOOM Jackson to see the photo from the “official” shoot!)

Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase @ Pix/Capri (12.19.10)

Posted in 2010, black and white, Color, Digital, Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase, Photo Post, rock and roll by William Patrick Butler on December 22, 2010

sorry for the two month pause in activities (paid work has been keeping me pretty busy) 🙂 and welcome to what, odds are, will be the last Scenes Around Jackson post of 2010! (more on that later)

and just like last year, i’m closing it out with photos from the 2010 Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase!

once again, it was held in the heart of Fondren, at the Pix/Capri Theater and, as always everyone’s face got rocked off!

so, just like last year, this is a 100+ photo plus so don’t expect a lot of commentary from me 🙂

(and, once again, thanks to Stephen Barnett of Davaine Lighting, for providing excellent lighting.  and by excellent, i mean kick-ass!)

so, without further ado:

The Line-Up! (in order of appearance)

Winter Sport!

El Obo!

TB Ledford!

Wooden Finger!

The Weeks!

J-TRAN!

(with apologizes to Bear Colony and Colour Revolt.  they also performed but i just ran out of memory and battery life.  make sure to click those links and show ’em some love!)

AJC and The Envelope Pushers Recording @ Sneaky B Studios (5.22.10)

Posted in 2010, Behind The Scenes, black and white, Digital, Photo Post, rock and roll by William Patrick Butler on July 29, 2010

for a weekly photo blog i sure have been forgetting that “weekly” part :p

sorry about that everyone.  the summer months are always my busiest months, but i’ll try to do better!

speaking of doing better.

two months ago, back in may, AJC invented me to a recording session him and the other Envelope Pushers were having with Byron over at “Sneaky B Studios”.

(that’s not the real name of it.  in fact Byron hasn’t chosen a name yet.  so, till then, i’m going with “Sneaky B.”  because Byron is the owner of Sneaky Beans coffee house.  you see what i did there?) 🙂

the guys were laying down some tracks for their upcoming record and AJC had liked the shots i’d done of The Bacherlorettes when they were recording and wondered if i’d do the same for them?

and since you’re reading this post, you’ve probably already figured out my answer.

also, The Envelope Pushers will be performing July 30th up at Sneaky Beans!  show starts at 7pm and only $5 at the door!  make sure you check it out.  the boys put on a great live show!

ok, let’s get to it!

THE ENVELOPE PUSHERS: BEHIND THE MUSIC

The Bachelorettes Last Show Ever! @ Hal & Mal’s (6.10.10)

Posted in 2010, black and white, Color, Digital, Hal and Mal's, Photo Post, rock and roll, The Bachelorettes by William Patrick Butler on June 16, 2010

so, as night fell on the 10th of June, lovers of good music, good times, and wigs gathered at The Redroom in Hal & Mal’s to get our wig on and rock out for The Bachelorettes final show!

it was a bittersweet night because we all love The Girls in The Band, but the bittersweetness couldn’t stop the rocking and couldn’t take away the awesome reasons why The Girls are splitting up.

Dr. Annie Blazer (trust her, she’s a doctor!) is heading off to Princeton!

always adorable Amanda Rainey and Lizzie Wright (trust her, she has a super spaceship!) are heading off to missouri for grad school!

Rachel “charmin!” Jarman (she’s charming!) is moving back to Jackson to continue working at the ISJL, spreading knowledge of southern Jewish culture!

so, even though we’ll miss the Ladies of 60s Girl-Pop, they’re moving on to bigger and better and we couldn’t be prouder!

and with the night being kicked off by Lizzie Wright Super Spaceship, followed by the Girl’s HusBand; Senryu blowing the top off the place, and wrapping up with The Ladies themselves, Jackson sent them off in style!

so let’s get this celebration started!

ALL GOOD THINGS…

Storage 24 @ Touch Nightclub (12.18.09)

Posted in 2009, Color, Digital, Photo Post, rock and roll, Storage 24 by William Patrick Butler on December 24, 2009

this past friday, my boys Storage 24, along with Still Frame and the Jason Turner Band, rocked out the 1st Annual Miller Light /Rock 93.9 Merry Mayhem Show up in Touch Nightclub in downtown Jackson

i believe this was their first show since winning the 2009 Band of the Year award down in Club LaVela, in Florida (which means they’ll be on next year’s MTV Spring Break show!)

anyway, enough talking, let’s get to the rocking and the rolling!

NO SURRENDER!
