[Behind The Scenes] VIP Jackson Magazine Fall Fashion Shoot (8/2013)
this was one of the biggest shoots i’ve been involved in.
when tom beck called me up to see if i was free, and willing, to, not only be his assist on this shoot, but to also shoot some behind the scenes photos, he laid it all out for me:
- VIP Jackson Magazine was doing their biggest fall fashion shoot ever.
- taking place over three days at the Renaissance at Colony Park.
- models from Jamie Ainsworth’s JEA Model Management agency.
- hair and make up my Leah Vincent of Colorize Hair Studios.
- and lots and lots of wonderful vintage cars, provided by Mike Marsh and his friends/contacts.
i’ve been wanting to get into the fashion scene more, plus, it sounded like it’d be some adventure.
let’s do this.
day one started off very early to the side of the clock tower that’s in the middle of the Renaissance. i’m ended up being glad we started each of the three days so early cause, let me tell ya, we ended up shooting on the three days that turned out to be the three hottest days of the entire summer.
this was the first car we shot with. a 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn! (owned by Kelly Kyle)
tom getting to work after i got all the lights set up. the first model of the day was Sara Marie Panetta of JEA Model Management.
just had to grab a quick “selfie”
we had to do a sudden location change because, for some reason, the Renaissance didn’t want us blocking traffic in front of the cloak tower and making it hard for customers to park and spend money. go figure 😉
so, here we are at our new location, thankful for some shade.
tom giving the models some instructions.
Leah touching up Sara’s make-up while tom looks over what he has.
getting some detail shots of the jewelry. (jewelry from Juniker Jewelry)
after that i hopped inside to grab some shots of the tools of the trade and the models getting ready
(plus the A/C felt really good too)
some of the clothes Jamie got from the various stores that were involved in the shoot.
Leah’s set up. she’s ready to rock and roll, yo
Jamie’s assistant supreme, Ann, killing some time between outfit changes.
really like this shot of Leah.
Sara after a wardrobe change.
Jamie, being hands on, helping to fit the watch to Sara’s wrist.
Jamie and Ann, looking over Sara’s wardrobe.
Leah working her magic on Sara’s hair.
Leah’s assistant, Rachel, making sure Leah has what she needs, in the background, while Leah continues to work her magic on Sara.
Sara being patient while Leah does her hair.
Tom coming in from a break from the heat and talking to Jamie
done with the hair and now applying the make-up.
looking over what we have so far and knowing that we’re killing it means it’s time for Team Supreme high fives!
talking over the next shoot.
Jamie picking out clothes for the next model.
Ann getting the picked out clothes all steamed and ready.
a new model has joined the party!
it’s Katie Carter of JEA Model Management.
Rachel and Leah tag teaming the hair duties.
and this shot of yet another model joining the fun, Rachel Wilkinson of JEA Model Management, will wrap up Day One. after this, i just got too busy helping tom set up that i had to put down my Pentax DSLR. so all the rest of the Day One behind the scenes i shot with my iphone. but don’t worry, more to come from the Pentax in Day Two.
for Day Two, Rachel was our first model of the day. Tom is going over some ideas for the shoot (while grabbing some sweet shade in the process).
the awesome car for the first shoot of Day Two was a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 (owned by Mike Marsh)
Jamie giving Rachel some posing advice.
the set-up we had for this shoot.
talking about what the next set-up will be after wrapping that first shoot and sending Rachel inside for a wardrobe change.
Rachel ready for the next shot.
Tom directing Rachel.
after the direction, Rachel hits the ball out the park.
working out the next shot.
getting a touch up.
inside for the last wardrobe change for Rachel. working to keep her hair all pinned up.
and this will wrap up Day Two for the Pentax. once again, things got a bit more fast paced so i relied on my iPhone to grab the rest of the BTS shots from that day.
Day Three starts of with Sara back in the hair/make-up chair for our first shoot of the day.
heh, i forget who said what, but trust me, it was funny
and the car for Day Three was a 1967 Jaguar E Type Roadster (owned by Keith Anderson)
Sara getting her shoes on.
heh, Leah sneaking a peak at the set up through Tom’s lens.
i really love those old school glasses that Sara has on for this shoot.
this is one of my fav shots
Leah, Jamie, and Ann cheesing it up
Sara rocking those shades.
Tom explaining what he’s going for with VIP Jackson Magazine General Manager, Mary Ann.
and this will wrap up the post!
just like with the Days One and Two, i took many more BTS shots but i took them on my iPhone and posted them to my instagram account.
it was a hot hot hot three days of shooting, but i think the Team Supreme pulled it off.
