[From The Archives] Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase @ Pix/Capri (12.20.08)

Posted in Color, Digital, Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase, From The Archives, rock and roll by William Patrick Butler on December 15, 2009

so, as i was scrolling through my recent entries, it occurred to me that i haven’t posted many photos from live shows lately

coming up on Dec 19th is the annual Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase at the Pix/Capri Theater in Fondren.

getting that facebook invite reminded me that i never, actually, posted a lot of the photos i shot of last year’s Holiday Showcase.

well, time to fix that

so sit back and enjoy photos from last year’s kick-ass show.  i’m sure this year will be just as good! (and i sure wouldn’t mind shooting this year’s too.  hint hint!)

sad to say, but this is the only shot i got of Bear Colony that night.  i’d been invited to shoot the show by Chaz Linday of The Weeks and i told my friend Joey that i’d get some shots of his friends in Colour Revolt so i wanted to be sure i saved enough space on my one and only memory card (this was back when i only had one card) for those two bands.

but when i saw how he was lit while i was in the photo pit, i just had to grab the shot

and now, first up, Colour Revolt!

speaking of how things were lit, i really have to give it up for the great lighting we had that night

Stephen Barnett (who i used to work with back when i was interning for the JFP) was running the lights that night

if you shoot shows, you know how much having good, no, great lighting makes your job easier

so, many thanks to Stephen and his crew for wonderful lighting

it really did make my job a helluva lot easier 🙂

(Stephen’s website, Davaine Lighting, isn’t all done yet, but it’s getting there.  so be sure to bookmark/rss it and keep an eye on it)

this was the first time i’d heard Colour Revolt live

(damn.  that’s some good lighting)

y’know how some bands are good studio bands but not good live?

Colour Revolt is not one of those bands

they rocked that show

i like how the mood changes when you change up the lighting

i always try to give each member of a band their “rockstar shot”

Colour Revolt, ladies and gentlemen

next up, The Weeks!

won’t be much talking.  otherwise i’d just keep going on and on about how great the show was and how great the lighting was 😉

heh, yeah.  my “trademarked” taking a photo of someone filming the show shot :p

yep! it’s Chaz!

making the “red light of doom” work for me

great turnout for the show

esp considering it was only 5 days before christmas

(i love this shot)

heh, i love that facial expression

that guy singing is one of the Powers That Be of Esperanza Plantation

one of the main people to help put the entire Holiday Showcase together

(sigh, yes.  i’ve forgotten his name.  come on, it’s been a year since this show!)

((EDIT: his name is Chaney Nichols.  thanks for the heads up Chris)) 🙂

man, that crowd loved themselves some Weeks

the only time i used a flash that night, that wasn’t a crowd shot

Chaz rocking it

another one of my favs

at this point, all the bands that had performed that night came back on stage to close it out in style

and that’ll wrap it up!

The Weeks have left the building!

don’t forget to check out the other artists in the Esperanza Plantation collective!

and don’t forget to check out the 2009 Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase this Dec. 19th at the Pix/Capri this weekend!

and don’t forget to keep in eye on Stephen’s website; Davaine Lighting, coming soon!

who knows, you may see me there 🙂

have a good one everybody

I’d like to be able to tag blogs I like and have them show on my website. Any suggestions on the best route to take on this. Any input would be helpful..
