[Jubilee!Jam] Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (6.20.09)
yes. i know i missed the update on saturday.
so, sorry about that. but that just means instead of only one update this fine sunday, ya’ll get two updates!
let’s run down that list and get to it!
today! first up; Joan Jett and the Blackhearts!
day two of Jubilee!Jam has now begun! my day two started around 6:00pm. which is when i arrived at the Jam so i would be ready to shoot Joan Jett when she started at 6:30.
(everybody gets ready)
why did i get there so late? well, i learned, from day one, that walking around the jam while the sun was high in the sky was sheer madness LoL
(the crowd is ready to rock)
so, since i knew joan jett and david banner where the only people i was shooting that day/night and joan didn’t go on till 6:30, well, gotta beat that heat! 😉
this was an expression i saw a lot of while shooting her (when she wasn’t really rocking out)
smiling. i mean, can you blame her?
how many of us can say that, a job we’ve had for decades, is a job that we would love doing?
(got the drummer)
this was a really cool show to shoot. one of the things that made it cool was what happened behind the scenes, before the show even started.
(got the bass player)
so, before the show started i, and the rest of the photographers trying to get into the pit, weren’t sure if we would be able to shoot the show.
seems there had been some miscommunication and no one was sure if we had been cleared to shoot.
well, after that got figured out, we were told that we’d only be able to shoot the first two songs of the show.
which, while one song less than three, at least that meant we got to shoot something.
but (and here’s the cool part) right after we’re told that, the keyboardest of the band (that’s him up there) said “nah, to hell with that. let them shoot the whole show!”
when we asked him why he let us do that he said something to the effect of (can’t rememeber the actual quote) that, if we only shoot the first 2 or 3 songs and they end up doing something cool in the 5th or 8th song, and there’s no-one to shoot that, that hurts us and them.
so yeah, we got to shoot the. entire. show.
now that’s rock and roll! 🙂
man, that crowd loved them some Joan Jett
knew all the words to the songs and really showed her some jackson, mississippi love
and Joan showed them some rock and roll love in return
yes. that is her hair sticking to her face, due to the heat
i mean, it was a hot day. it was hot all weekend actually.
and if it was hot for us running around the pit shooting her and hot for the crowd cheering her on, imagine how hot it was for her, up there, on that stage, rocking like there was no tomorrow.
(got the lead guitar)
and she never slowed down.
man. this was a great show.
and you can tell, she still loves rock and roll too.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, ladies and gentlemen!
and now, a random crowd shot!
make sure to check out the JFP Jubilee!Jam Photo Gallery to see all the rest of the shots i took. this is only a small bit!
next up, David Banner!
see ya next post!
