[From The Archives] 1998
it’s time to, once again, warm up the ole flux-capacitor and hop in the TARDIS and take a journey back to my past.
in 1998 i was still living in memphis, finishing up my first semester at the Memphis College of Art and getting ready to start my second year there.
like my 1997 post, the majority of these photos have never been seen before, by anyone but me.
so let’s check out what 21 year old Pat and his friends were up to in 1998!
[From The Archives] Josh Hailey’s I Love Jackson Retrospective (12.2.10)
have you ever shot so many photos that you’ve overlooked a crap ton of them?
no? well, i have LoL
in an effort to correct that, it’s time to, once again, take a look through the archives!
so, back in the last month of 2010, Josh Hailey, a well known Jackson Creative, was getting ready to pack up his ole kit bag and move to the always sunny west coast
and what do you do when you’re getting ready to move? that’s right, you throw a going away party! which is just what josh did.
except, this going away party included the entire city of jackson, live music, food, drinks, and kick ass art!
so let’s warm up the flux-capacitor and hop in the TARDIS and re-live a really great night!
and remember, this isn’t Sparta…
THIS!
IS!
JACKSON!
[From The Archives] 1997
i don’t like doing too many [interludes]
esp two back to back! so, no [interlude] this week!
part of the problem is, i really haven’t been shooting new stuff lately (but that should be changing in the coming weeks. yay!)
so, instead, i figured, why not turn on Ziggy, warm up the ole flux-capacitor, and hop in the Way-Back Machine and take a look at how it all began for me, photo-wise. most of these shots have never been seen by anyone else before.
it was fall 1997. i had just moved up to Memphis to start my first semester at the Memphis College of Art.
funny thing was, i was originally an illustration major. that was the entire reason why i was going there. but since i’d already taken all the basic core classes during my two years at Hinds Community College back home, and i had all the drawing/illustration classes i was allowed to take already chosen, i was one class short of being a full-time student. which meant, i wouldn’t get all the financial aid i would need to go. so! needed at least one more class to round it out!
and so, on what was really just a whim, i decided to take Intro to Photography. i knew it was a whim because i didn’t even have a camera! but a friend of the family, Irvin Williams, actually gave me his old Canon ae-1 Program camera and it had a 50mm lens.
and that’s how it all started.
[From The Archives] Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase @ Pix/Capri (12.20.08)
so, as i was scrolling through my recent entries, it occurred to me that i haven’t posted many photos from live shows lately
coming up on Dec 19th is the annual Esperanza Plantation Holiday Showcase at the Pix/Capri Theater in Fondren.
getting that facebook invite reminded me that i never, actually, posted a lot of the photos i shot of last year’s Holiday Showcase.
well, time to fix that
so sit back and enjoy photos from last year’s kick-ass show. i’m sure this year will be just as good! (and i sure wouldn’t mind shooting this year’s too. hint hint!)
